In 2004, the holy Sankalp of Shri Sadgurudev Ji Maharaj was fulfilled when Shri Golok Dham, New Delhi was consecrated in Feb-March. After the performance of any great Yagya, a Yagyanta Snana (The holy bath at the end of a period of Yagyas) must be performed, and Shri Sadgurudev Ji Maharaj, in adherence to these Vedic regulations, organised this most special Yagyanta Snan at the holy place of Manasarovar, the lake at the foot of Mount Kailash, the abode of Shri Gopishwara Shri Shiva Shankar Bhagavan.
The trip took place in May of 2004, and roughly 30 devotees attended mainly from India and Hong Kong, with a few from the U.K. It started with a flight from DEL to Kathmandu where we stayed for a few days (during a Maoist strike) and begging the blessings of Shri Pashupati Nath Bhagavan, Buda Nilakantha Bhagavan Vishnu and the deities at the Iskcon temple, devotees began their Pilgrimage.
Shri Sadgurudev Ji Maharaj invited Swami Shri Swaroopananda Sarasvati, the Mahamandaleshvara of Gautameshvar Mahadev Mandir, Sihor Gujerat and Acharya Pt. Bhatta Ji, the head Pujari of Pashupati Nath temple and dear friend of the former King of Nepal, Shri Virendra Shahadeva. Also joining the trip was Swami Brahmanand Ji of Haridwar and Shri Mauni Baba and his disciple.
Driving forhours through the himalayan foothills, we arrived at the border of Nepal and China (which would have been a Tibetan border) at Tato Pani (meaning hot water, referring to the natural hot springs there). Passing the border, we transferred to land rovers for the day trip through the himalaya mountains to Kailash. We passed through chinese-tibetan small towns and crossed the famed Brahmaputra river. We stayed in humble tents and tibetan shacks, helped by a team of sherpas, and finally found ourselves at Manasarovar, where we stayed for days. Those who were brave left there and commenced a three day parikrama of Kailash by foot, going around Kailash, climbing to an altitude of feet. The rest waited our return in Manasarovar.
One thing must be said about the grace of the Lord. It is stated in the Shiva Purana that only very fortunate devotees of the Lord are able to see Kailash mountain and Manasarovar at the same time. Normally, there are daily blizzards at 4pm, and the days are cloudy and gray. Yet, by the grace of Shri Radha Golokavihari Bhagavan, and Shri Sadgurudev Ji Maharaj, all us devotees had unrestricted darshan of Shri Kailash Ji for thedays we were up there, and instead of cloudy days, the days were completely sunny. Shri Sadgurudev Ji Maharaj Ki Jay! Even Shri Morari Bapu’s trip to Kailash (who followed on a few days later) only got minutes of clear darshan out of the days they were there.
